Parts Per Million aka PPM exploded onto the Chicago music scene in late 2008, quickly setting themselves apart as a singular and unique band. Parts Per Million’s music rings true with hooky choruses, hard edges, and epic violin passages. It’s easy to hear why their audience runs the gamut from the young person just discovering rock music to the more mature, seasoned listener experiencing PPM’s unique combination of energy-driven rock with rolling, violin-filled passages and honest lyrics. Contributing to their unique sound is the varied backgrounds of each member. Frontman Ro was classically trained on the piano and violin and has been a featured performer with several symphonic orchestras. Drummer Jensen has played with various symphonic, marching, and jazz bands. Guitarist Chung has shared the stage with many national acts, including Seether, Buckcherry, and Collective Soul. Lastly, bassist Rarang has been rocking the local Chicago scene for many years, participating in numerous shows, TV tapings, and documentaries. This combination of talents, experiences, and interests has culminated in PPM being a band unlike any that has been heard on the rock scene. Recently, the band released their debut music video for their song “Racer” on YouTube and is currently preparing songs for their third album, scheduled to be released late fall of 2010.
HEMMINGBIRDS (INDIE/ACOUSTIC/ROCK)
What started out as a solo project by Yoo Soo Kim has now fully stretched into a four member band. Hemmingbirds delivers a unique combination of indie rock and folk influenced music. The lead vocals are often compared to that of Death Cab for Cutie as Yoo Soo charms the audience with his soft and lull vocals. Their debut album, “Death Wave,” is now available for purchase on itunes.
